Why Liposuction?

In recent years, liposuction has become one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries amongst men with stubborn pockets of fat. Liposuction is particularly popular with men who lead healthy lives, exercise regularly, and watch their diets to maintain a lean physique. However, regardless of their best attempts, they might have trouble eliminating the stubborn pockets of subcutaneous fat from certain areas, such as the lower abdomen and flanks.

Traditional weight loss methods and exercises can’t target specific regions. You can do all the crunches you want — that might strengthen your abdominal muscles, but it won’t necessarily eliminate the pocket of subcutaneous fat in your lower abdomen. Liposuction is the ideal cosmetic procedure for the targeted removal of unwanted fat cells. It allows the surgeon to literally vacuum away the unwanted fat cells, sculpting the targeted region.

Liposuction is also popular as a treatment for gynecomastia, i.e., male breasts. Gynecomastia is a condition wherein men develop breast tissues for reasons unrelated to weight gains. Even slim men close to the ideal body weight can develop breasts because of this condition. Liposuction is the ideal treatment for gynecomastia because the unwanted breast tissues are extracted from your body, giving you a flattened chest.

Targeted Areas For Male Liposuction

Male liposuction isn’t inherently different from female liposuction in procedural terms. However, men and women prefer liposuction in different regions. Men usually opt for liposuction in the lower abdomen, flanks (love handles), or upper arms to prominently reveal the underlying abdominal muscles, obliques, and triceps. However, you can also opt for liposuction in other areas with unwanted fat, such as the chest, chin, neck, thighs, hips, and lower back.

Liposuction Benefits

  • Removes unwanted fat tissues from targeted areas.
  • Successfully removes stubborn fat when traditional methods fail.
  • Treats gynecomastia, i.e., male breasts.
  • Permanent results, as long as you maintain your weight.
  • Helps you achieve a contoured and lean physique.

The Liposuction Procedure

Liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. The procedure usually lasts 1 to 4 hours, depending on the volume of fat tissues and the treatment areas. In some cases, if the treatment area is small, the procedure can be performed with local anesthesia and sedatives. The anesthetic will be delivered with epinephrine to constrict the blood vessels and reduce bleeding.

Once the anesthesia kicks in, the surgeon makes a small incision on the chosen treatment area. The incision is used as an entry point for a tube-like device called a cannula. The cannula loosens the fat cells and suctions them out of the body. In some cases, the surgeon might use a mechanized system to loosen or melt the fat cells, making the extraction easier.

Recovery From Liposuction

You have to wear support bandages or compression garments for a few days or weeks after the surgery, depending on the surgeon’s recommendations. You’ll be given a detailed list of pain medications and antibiotics to prevent discomfort and infections. The treated areas will be numb for 6 to 8 weeks, and you’ll experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. You can appreciate the results once the swelling dissipates in a few weeks.
