After eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) – either on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both – you can expect some degree of initial bruising and swelling around the eyes. As you rest, heal, and closely follow the post-operative care instructions provided by Dr. Matthew White, you will find that the swelling and discoloration should reduce quickly. The specific rate of your healing will depend on the extent of your surgery and your body’s individual healing response. Most patients find that they are able to return to work and regular activities somewhere between one week to ten days after surgery. During your post-operative appointments, Dr. White will closely follow your progress and keep you updated as to how quickly you are healing and exactly what you can expect. Since any incisions from the surgery are hidden either along the lash-line or eyelid crease, there should be no prominent scarring to be concerned with after healing.
After you have recovered, you can enjoy the full benefits of your eyelid procedure. Many of our patients who have undergone eyelid lift surgery report that family, friends, and colleagues tell them they look well-rested and refreshed. The rejuvenating results of eyelid lift typically benefit the overall facial appearance, helping patients look years younger. When you come in for your consultation, we encourage you to look through eyelid surgery before-and-after photos to see the results our patients have been able to achieve with Dr. White’s help.
