Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a “nose job,” can be used to improve both the form and the function of the nose. Cosmetically, a rhinoplasty can be used to change the size, shape, or angles of the nose to enhance your overall facial harmony and create a sense of balance with your other facial features. Although rhinoplasty is often performed for cosmetic reasons, this surgery can also be used to help patients who have difficulty breathing, blocked nasal passages, a deviated septum, or problems due to injury. If you find it difficult to breathe through your nose or you suffer from constant heavy snoring, rhinoplasty may be able to improve your overall quality of life.

At our New York facial plastic surgery practice, patients as young as their teens to age 60 and older have benefited from rhinoplasty. We do recommend that most teenagers wait until their nose has stopped developing before having rhinoplasty surgery, since continued growth after surgery can compromise the results. (Typically, this age is around 15 for girls and around 18 for boys – a good rule of thumb is when your feet have stopped growing and your shoe size has not changed.) As with any surgery, all patients considering rhinoplasty undergo a physical exam, have their medical history carefully reviewed, and should be in good physical health. If you are found to be a good candidate for rhinoplasty after your initial consultation, we will schedule a date for your procedure. After surgery, rhinoplasty patients may breathe more easily, enjoy the improved shape of their nose, and experience a boost of confidence.
